Act as if you work for a civil society organisation and your employer has aksed you to draft a 1,500- word submission (in letter format) to be sent to the Select Committee into the Political Influence of Donations.

You have been directed to respond to the following terms of reference of the Committee’s inquiry into the political influence of donations:

  1. the level of influence that political donations exert over the public policy decisions of political parties, Members of Parliament and Government administration;
  2. the motivations and reasons why entities give donations to political parties and political candidates;
  3. how to improve the integrity of political decision-making through our political donation regime and the public funding of elections; and,
  4. measures government could take to strengthen the involvement of citizens and civil society organisations in public policy decisions of political
