Feature of a Successful Thesis

1. A thesis must consist of a claim.

Questions are not claims nor are simple descriptions. Thesis is something to be argued not just a topic or theme.

2. A thesis shouldn’t be obviously true or false

There is no need to argue for a claim that is clearly true, and similarly, there is no need to argue for a claim that is obviously false. Instead, the claim should be plausible but in need of support from argument and evidence.

3. A thesis shouldn’t be overly abstract or general

The topic must be specific enough to be arguable, that is, specific enough to support the evidence available to you

4. A thesis should be original

It shouldn’t merely just narrate another researcher’s argument. However, this doesn’t mean that a thesis can’t be based on or influenced by the arguments of other researchers.

5. A thesis should be arguable

To be arguable, a claim in a thesis statement must be supported by evidence and have a reasonable scope that allows for adequate arguments within the length of the paper.
