In this topic you have been exposed to a number of theories that help us to understand trauma and the impact of trauma. It becomes evident that there is no one theory or perspective that provides an all-encompassing explanation of the experiences and impact of trauma. This essay provides you with an opportunity to examine two closely and engage in a critique of them.

The purpose of the assessment is to facilitate your understanding of some of the core concepts and engage you in critical analysis of some of the theories that you been discussed in this topic thus far.

Task overview:

Using the topic readings and wider readings address the following questions:

1. Choose two particular theories or perspectives that provide an understanding of trauma and explains the impact of trauma.
2. Briefly describe those theories/perspectives and indicate why you they have been
3. Building on your response to number 2, critically analyse the theories by highlighting their strengths and limitations in how they inform your thinking about trauma and the impact of trauma
4. Finalise your paper by reflecting on how these theories may be relevant to your future or current practice as a social worker.
