Background
The public health issue that has been identified is chlamydia, which is known as the most commonly occurring sexually transmitted disease. This disease is caused by the transmission of a bacteria known as and usually causes genital and ocular infections in males and females (Sturd & Rucks, 2023).
Aetiology:
According to Bahromovna (2024), the bacteria causing chlamydia can be present in the mouth or sexual genital areas of men and women. This disease usually happens due to the transmission of the chlamydia bacteria, from one person to another through touch, exchange of fluids or unprotected sexual activity. Moreover, it can also be caused due to sexual interactions with multiple partners or even during birth, passing from a mother to a baby.
Signs and symptoms
It has been reported by the World Health Organisation (2023) that the most common symptoms of chlamydia, in women include changed secretion of fluid from the vagina, irregular beeling during the menstrual cycle or after intercourse, affliction in the lower abdominal area, and stinging sensation while urination. However, it has been further reported by Health Direct (2020) that males experience signs such as a burning sensation while urinating, irregular discharges from the male genitals, redness near the genital areas and pain and swelling in the male reproductive organs.
Moreover, it has also been reported by Bahromovna (2024), that people who get infected by the Chlamydia trachomatis bacteria might develop infections in the throat, eyes or respective reproductive organs. The eye infection is usually known as conjunctivitis, which is the redness, itching, burning and swelling of the eyes. However, the throat infection results in the inflammation and swelling of the throat, while the infection in the reproductive parts of males and females might relate to the pain, discharge or bleeding
