Assessment purpose:
A case scenario-based written assessment task will be introduced to students to explore the roles of public health professionals, nurses, and midwives in promoting health promotion interventions among vulnerable populations.

The title of the assignment is “Promoting oral and dental health for kids.”  The aim of the assessment task is to explore the roles of nurses and midwives in promoting oral and dental health, especially when working with vulnerable populations. Working through this assessment task, students will be able to discuss the importance of dental and oral health to overall health and wellbeing from a primary health care perspective and vulnerable populations. As a future registered nurse/midwife, our students are expected to play an important role in the provision of ‘person-centred’ holistic health care. To ensure this, it is imperative that students understand the social, cultural, behavioural, and biomedical factors to overcome barriers in providing holistic care to a vulnerable population. In this Assessment task, students will choose one of the two vulnerable population groups – refugee children or indigenous children and then discuss dental and oral health care in relation to their chosen group in a specific setting.
