Item 1 – LLN requirements of training specification
Steps to determine LLN levels for a unit of competency
Step 1 Research the unit of competency and assessment requirements for the unit of competency on training.gov.au
Step 2 Determine the applicable trigger words and phrases for the selected unit by referring to the Foundation
Skills table on training.gov.au if this information is available. Please note that some units of competency will not contain any explicit foundation skills.
Step 3 Review the performance levels embedded within the ACSF for every indicator number and match them to the list of trigger words. Decisions that are made at this stage should be based on work and industry experience.
Step 4 Take the highest level for each core skill as this will define the minimum LLN core skills required to
undertake training within that unit of competency
Example See ‘In Practice – Core skill analysis tool for unit of competency’ in Learner Guide.
