The assessment strategy for Performance Management course has two key components: The ‘on-going assessment tasks’ (Virtual labs 30%, Midterm exam 20%, Contribution to Discussions 10%), which account for 60% of your final mark and the ‘end-of-course assessment task’ (Individual project) which accounts for 40% of your final mark (please see the Course Syllabus for further details). As can be seen from the Course Syllabus, the ongoing assessment is composed of three different tasks as follows:
Final Individual Written Project / Final Exam (week/session 14)
This is the final element of your course assessment and accounts for 40% of your final mark. Choose ONE of the following two topics for your Final Individual Assignment (word limit 2000 words, excluding references and appendices):
- Critically assess the importance of performance management and measurement systems in relation to adoption and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives such as Total quality Management (TQM). Support your answer with evidence from a MENA- or UAE-based private or public sector Support your answer from both theory (literature review of contemporary research) and a local organization that you are familiar with.
- Assume that you are a consultant with expertise concerned with performance management and measurement systems for different organizations. You have been approached by the management of a public or private sector organization to assist them with the design and implementation of a performance management system. Discuss the processes, choices, and challenges involved in the design and implementation of a performance management and measurement Support your answer from both theory (literature review of contemporary research) and a local organization that you are familiar with.
Structure of Final Individual Project (Final Exam):
- Cover page (logo of the university, title and code of the course, title of your report (i.e. Final Individual Assignment: Choose one of the above 2 topics), your name, student number, date of submission & word limit
- Critical assessment of the relevant literature to performance management in public or private sector organizations linked to your topic
- Relevant evidence from a local organization
- Conclusion and recommendation
- References

Marking Scheme: Based on the above assessment criteria you will be awarded a grade shown in the grading scheme of the course syllabus (i.e. A, B+, B, C+, C & F – see the course syllabus for more details). Please make sure to prepare, write and submit your own assignment and DO NOT copy others or do not use any previously submitted assignments for this or other courses. In order to prevent plagiarism, we use Turnitin software.
A Turnitin similarity rate of < 10% is acceptable. So please observe the University policy for preparing and submitting your assignments.
Remember: To have your draft proofread for any typos/grammatical errors, to use ONLY WORD file, to use Font 12, Times New Roman 1.0-line space, and fully justified text. Watch for Turnitin similarity rate of your submission (it has to be below 10%). Do not exceed the suggested word limit and do not send email to your course instructor for exceeding the word limit.
Deadline for submission: Week 14 (or week 15 as per final schedule) 1 hour before the synchronous session.
Presentations of the individual projects will be given during the synchronous session and asynchronous sessions on the same day (week 14 or week 15, as per final schedule).
