The primary purpose of payroll processing software is to pay employees for their time worked. Most payroll software systems have features to track employee time, calculate payroll taxes, maintain payroll history, and comply with tax and reporting requirements (Simkin et al., 2018). Many of the payroll software systems already discussed have all these options. In my research, I came across software called APS. This software has payroll software specific to different industries. The manufacturing payroll software includes features such as labor management, GPS time tracking, and asset management. Manufacturers mainly focus on producing products that are generally sold to other businesses, like retailers or wholesalers. Many times, manufacturers use a costing method that captures the variable costs of each step of production. This software has codes that can be built in for employees that work in more than one area to track how much of their time is spent on each task. GPS tracking allows employees who work remotely or at a different location to clock in and out using GPS tracking for real- time data on where hours are worked. It also tracks and manages property assigned to employees, such as computers, cell phones, and company vehicles. These controls can help identify risks by department, such as the number of hours spent on one area over another, and help management take corrective action to utilize their workforce better.
