Task description:

For this assessment task, you need to write an analytical report. The report should have four sub-headings (see below). Write your response in paragraphs, with no bullet points or numbered lists. 

Your response will seek to answer the following question for a particular context:

What are some pedagogical issues and/or debates in EAL/D or EFL teaching that impact on the development of oral language?

To answer this question:

1. Identify a particular context for learning English (EAL/D, EFL), including who the learners are and why they are learning English.
2. Identify issues and/or debates and analyse their relevance to these learners.
3. Suggest and justify classroom practices that could be used to develop oral language effectively for these students.

Draw on subject and other readings to provide the basis for your discussion.

Suggested report structure

• Introduction (1 paragraph): Provide a brief background about the importance of oral language development for L2 students, identify your chosen context and learner group (see point 1 above), and outline what issues your report will discuss. 
• Issues and strategies (3-5 paragraphs):Each issue you write about must explain an idea you mentioned at the end of the Introduction. In most cases, one paragraph is sufficient for each issue + strategies, but two paragraphs may be necessary for a major issue and accompanying strategies. In each paragraph, a topic sentence should introduce the main idea of the paragraph. You must explicitly link each issue to your learner group during the paragraph (see point 2). Then you should suggest teaching strategies to help address the issue for your group of learners. Do NOT write a lesson plan. Refer to your strategies generally, but you can add an example if you think it makes your point clearer.  
• Conclusion (1 paragraph): Summarise the key issues for your group of learners and how your chosen classroom strategies would help them with their use of oral English. 
• Reference List: List all the sources you have referred to in your report using APA 7 method. Use at least 5 references from the subject readings and include the page number in each citation within your text.
