This assessment relates to the following Learning Outcomes:
- Apply evidence based practice to recommend a specific therapeutic approach within a particular clinical setting, or with a particular person, in order to promote Recovery.
- Demonstrate and evaluate the use of particular therapeutic approaches within a particular clinical setting and/or with a particular person in order to promote Recovery.
Aim
‘try out’ a particular therapy that you are not familiar with or work on consolidating one that you are familiar with.
Role-play the use of a particular therapy with a ‘client’ and provide a rationale that supports the use of this therapy and a critical reflection of your use of the therapy.
Instructions
Part 1
- Choose one of the follow therapies:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy,
- Trauma informed care,
- Mindfulness,
- Solution focused therapy or
- Motivational Interviewing.
- Ask a colleague, friend, or family member to participate in a role play.
- Video a role play that demonstrates your use of this therapy. This doesn’t have to be perfect. You are not graded on the actual role play, rather your critique of it. The role play should not be more than 30 minutes. However, it would need to be at least 15 minutes so that you can demonstrate your use of the therapy.
Part 2
In this section you are required to validate your therapeutic choice and critique your use of it.
- Introduce this therapy and analyse why it is appropriate for the client that you chose.
- Explain the techniques and strategies that are required in undertaking this therapy
- Critique your use of the techniques and strategies.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of your use of the therapy. (you may want to ask your participant as to how they felt during the session)
- Provide 4 ‘take home’ lessons from this assessment as a part of your conclusion
Literature and references
In this assessment use literature of no more than 10 years old (from peer-reviewed sources) to demonstrate broad consideration of your alternate nursing interventions.
You may also use seminal scholarly literature where relevant.
Suitable references include peer-reviewed journal articles as well as textbooks and credible websites.
When sourcing information, consider the five elements of a quality reference: currency, authority, relevance, objectivity, and coverage. Grey literature sourced from the internet must be from reputable websites such as from government, university, or peak national bodies: for example, the Australian College of Nursing.
Requirements
- Use a conventional and legible size 12 font, such as Times New Roman or Arial, with 1.5 line spacing and 2.54cm page margins (standard pre-set margin in Microsoft Word).
- Include page numbers on each page in a footer.
- Use formal academic language
- Use the seventh edition American Psychological Association (APA) referencing style. The CQUniversity Academic Learning Centre has an online APA Referencing Style Guide.
- Word count is calculated from the first word of the introduction to the last word of the conclusion. The word count INCLUDES in-text references and direct quotations.
- The word count does NOT include cover page, abstract, contents page, reference page and appendices.
