MMM111 Intrapersonal Skills - Emotional Intelligence Assignment Solution

Introduction:

The movie Inside out written and directed by Peter Docter portrayed through a remarkable animation that tells us a process that how emotions guides a person in the world, how they help an individual in taking any decision and through them a person can judge a situation whether it is right or wrong. In the movie there are five emotions namely; Joy, Anger, Sadness, Disgust and Fear. These five emotions are shown inside the mind of an 11-year-old girl Riley, the mind is referred to as a Head quarter. The story picks up when Riley is born and Joy is guiding her to show the emotion of happiness, the control center is with the emotion Joy who thinks for a kid to be normal Riley needs to be happy, positive and joyous. Other emotions listen to Joy, but everyone has their own responsibility on how to guide Riley like Anger shows frustration in her behavior, Disgust keeps Riley safe from toxic situation ‘physically and socially’ and Fear keeps her safe like in the movie when a 3 year old Riley is about to trip from an electrical cord, fear slows her and makes her teary in order to alarm the parents to watch the toddler. Riley’s father had to urgently move to San Francisco along with the family due to employment purposes, which was a major setback in her life as she lost all her friends, her home and the sport she loved the most that is ice hockey. The rest of the movie shows how all the emotions makes her comfortable in the new place and how she makes new memories in the new state.

In the movie, there is a connection between memories and emotions, for example when Riley was sad when she entered the new home and went upstairs to check her room but it was quite the opposite of what she had in mind so Joy triggered a happy memory, which was when Riley first started to play ice hockey with her parents so it guided her to distract her parents and to play hockey with its putt made of paper in the house. This memory guided to share happiness with her parents and to be more positive and exuberant. Memories helps us to live the past in the present and helps us to travel time mentally (Talarico, 2015).

Report:

In the assessment the two emotions, Anger and Disgust are to be discussed. In the workplace every individual has to deal with their anger and disgust at any point of the employment. There are many examples as to why we feel disgusted and angry during our employment. During my employment I have also dealt with these two emotions.

Anger:

  • When a difficult task has been assigned to me and I cannot find a way to complete the task I get annoyed pretty easily.
  • When my supervisor doesn’t like the way, I have completed the assignment and tells me to perform the task all over again as shown in the movie metaphorically my head is on fire.
  • I get irritated very easily when I am not well or I have a fever but there’s work pending on my end and it is never ending

Disgust:

  • During my first week of internship, no employee was allowed to talk to me as interns can’t communicate with employees.
  • There was a social group who looked down upon those who belong to the mediocre social class
  • The feeling of disgust triggered the most to me when a new employee was hired who didn’t had the basic etiquettes of cleanliness and he was seated right next to me.
