The purpose of this assessment task was to critically analyse and evaluate the Human Resource Management (HRM) systems and strategies of an Australian organisation, in alignment with unit learning outcomes. I selected Woolworths Australia, one of the country's largest retail supermarket chains, to assess how effectively its HR practices align with its mission and operational goals. The task required a detailed business report that covered the background of the organisation, a description of the existing HR system, identification of any discrepancies between intended and actual HR practices, and a critical discussion supported by contemporary HR theories and models. I examined issues such as talent management, employee engagement, and workforce planning, and compared current HR strategies with best practices in the industry. I also assessed how well HR initiatives aligned with Woolworths’ strategic objectives and operating environment. The report concluded with evidence-based recommendations for improving HR effectiveness, such as enhancing training programs, improving internal communication, and aligning HR metrics with performance outcomes. A set of ten PowerPoint slides was also created to visually summarise key report findings and recommendations, replacing the traditional executive summary. This task allowed me to demonstrate applied knowledge of HR strategy in a real-world organisational context.
