You are required to complete the following assessment:
You have recently accepted an appointment to the management accounting team at the Doyan’s Truck Rescue Company Limited.
The company has a number of tow trucks located in different country towns, a series of radio- controlled light trucks carrying basic mechanical spares and equipment and driven by a mechanic travel from broken down truck to broken down truck. The mechanic assesses the damage and repairs the truck, if possible, otherwise a tow truck is assigned to recover the vehicle, and take it to a depot for repairs. Each call to a broken truck is assigned as a job, and normal job costing techniques are employed. The Company Ltd uses a traditional job costing system.
The Chief Executive Officer’s secretary Emails your team that the CEO wishes to see you all in his office immediately. You all go to the office to be told; “I have just returned from a management conference in Kyiv and I was embarrassed to find that traditional costing systems had been made obsolete by a new system called ABC. I do not know what this ABC system is, but I need to know what it is, and how it works, and why we still use an old system of costing before I attend my next management conference on 9th November 2022. Therefore, I need it by 8th November 2022 at 5.00pm”.
Required:
Prepare a report to the Chief Executive Officer that Answers his question. In your answer cover the differences between Traditional Job Cost Accounting and ABC Accounting.
In your report cover methodology, timing and other factors that differentiate the two types of management accounting, also explain the advantages and disadvantages of each type. Further explain how popular or unpopular each type of cost accounting is across industry.
