Anti-Chinese posters at Melbourne universities tied to white supremacists

It happened on the 24th of July that some anti-Chinese posters were found on the walls of Monash University and Melbourne University in Australia. The Straits Times (2018) reported that the posters marked the prohibition of Chinese students into the university premises. Logos of the prestigious associations of the two universities were also imprinted on the posters, that were subsequently removed. The associations of the two universities denied any involvement in the production of the posters through a joint statement. The anti-Chinese posters created an unpleasant environment for the entire student body, especially the Chinese students subject to heavy discrimination and prejudice. The Antipodean Resistance consisting of the white supremacists had produced the posters. The police was also involved into the matter and investigations had begun. The incident was widely reported into the Chinese state news media, and the Australian government was also pleaded to look into the matter. The media also reported anti-Chinese incidents in Australia. The Chinese students are despised by the white supremacists in Australia. However, the student bodies and their presidents at the two universities, alongside the president of the National Union of Students stand with the Chinese students. The Chinese students are, in no way, oppressed by their fellow schoolmates for belonging to a distinct culture, or sharing a different set of values.

An Etymology of “Asian Australian” Through Associational Histories Connecting Australia to Asia

In this article, community life has been used as a tool to explore the use of phrases such as “Asian Australian.” Three historical events have been identified in the article to explore Asian Australian, namely, “Meeting of Commonwealth Foreign Ministers,” “Igniting the Blainey affair,” and “Latham embarks on the first Eastern trade mission.” The gaps between the nations was bridged by the use of Asian Australian prior to its association with the racial politics. The corporate sector’s expansion implies that the economic policy is articulated through diplomacy. Australia is a multicultural nation that has greatly prioritized investment benefits and other forms of economic trade. The attitudes of the institutions imply that no bridges are no longer left to be bridged between the nations, particularly because of the policies designed by Spender, Evatt, and Casey. This position is also based on the assumption that Australia has become better off in terms of economic stability and cultural refinement than it had ever been in the past. In fact, the topography of Australia can also be leveraged mainly because of the economic commitments and other priorities.
