EDF5611 Investigating Education Issues in Global Contexts

Assignment Help on Education Issues Expo: Poster Presentation

Assessment 1. Education Issues Expo: poster presentation

What is the Education Issues Expo?

An expo is a large exhibition. In EDF5611, it is an exhibition of academic posters showcasing your work in weeks 1-5. The purpose of a poster is to present a piece of work that colleagues can easily view and which can stimulate an exchange of ideas between the presenter and the audience. Physical space of the classroom becomes an exhibition area. Expo begins with the audience viewing posters, then moves into brief oral presentations to the audience gathered as a group, followed by direct discussion with poster presenters. During the expo, students will have a chance to be both a presenter and an audience.

What should you do?

  • Prior to Expo: prepare an academic poster about your work in progress on a contemporary issue in education of your choice. First, you need to prepare a digital copy of the poster. PowerPoint can be used to design a poster (see examples and templates in Assessment 1 Resources). For Face to Face students, you need to print out your poster for the Expo. The required size is A0. Professional low-cost printing option (e.g. thin/basic paper quality, no bright colours or black-and-white - can be under 10$) is available at OfficeWorks. Ask for a low-cost option.
  • During Expo: Bring your poster, put it on the wall and share your  work with peers. Online students will present during zoom tutorials

Details of the task

The preparation of this assessment will involve search, review and analysis of relevant academic and professional literature. You need to use at least 6 peer-reviewed articles from academic journals in English. The use of the journals in your home language and other sources (e.g. media, policies, etc.) is allowed in addition to the required articles. In your poster and presentation, you need to:

  • identify the ‘education issue’
  • explain its background / a problem statement
  • articulate your investigation question
  • explain the significance of your investigation
  • define the key concepts
  • outline the main 'themes' which you identified in the literature in relation to your investigation question

Formatting requirements

  • Poster size: A0
  • Font size: 40 point font size for main text; 48 to 60 point font size for headings
  • Spacing: single spaced

Oral presentation

  • You will be advised by your tutor how much time you have to present your work
  • Your oral presentation will NOT be assessed

This assessment task should be viewed as a ‘building block’ that establishes the foundation for your second assessment task.
