Weighting: 50% Word Count: 3000-4000 words (equivalent)
Task Aim: The purpose of this assessment is for you to identify a feature/element of nature and think about how it could be used to address a range of teaching and learning areas. The assessment will enable you to consider curriculum areas, concepts and inclusive teaching strategies for children in prior-to-school contexts and as they transition to school.
Task Requirements: Using the "Nature Pedagogy Program" template provided record your teaching ideas for each Key Learning Area (KLA) and element of nature on pages 1-4. Include teaching strategies On page 5 record links to relevant Victorian and Early Years Learning Framework curriculum outcomes; health and safety consideration; National Regulations; and list resources you would need for both teachers and classroom use.
Marking Criteria: Your work will be marked according to the extent to which the following criteria are met.
- Completed Nature Pedagogy Program template demonstrates an understanding of development of health, wellbeing and safety implications for and of nature learning (5 marks)
- Demonstrates an awareness of how nature pedagogical approaches link to and support other pedagogies (2 marks)
- Demonstrate how key learning area content, especially health and physical education can be addressed using nature and play-based pedagogies (5 marks)
- Articulates legislative and curricula requirements as they relate to nature programs (5 marks)
- Articulates how nature programs support socially inclusive teaching/assessment strategies, including verbal and non-verbal communication strategies (4 marks)
- Demonstrates an understanding of how to select appropriate and engaging health and physical education experiences for young children (4 marks)
- Demonstrate knowledge of a range of resources including ICTs that engage students in their learning (2.5 marks)
- Demonstrates accuracy in academic conventions e.g., grammar, spelling, APA style referencing and support from scholarly literature (2.5 marks)
