This assessment requires students to complete demonstrations/role plays. Please read details below:
Classroom Students—are required to complete the demonstrations/role plays and worksheets with another student in the classroom setting and assessed by Trainer/Assessor. Trainer/Assessor completes checklist. Distance/Online Students—are required to complete the role plays/demonstrations and worksheets (via video/Smart phone recording) with a nominated person. The trainer will complete the checklist based on video supplied. You can use programs to submit your role play, such as OneDrive (Hotmail users) Google Drive (Gmail users) or Dropbox. Traineeship Students— are required to complete the role plays/demonstrations and worksheets with their trainer/assessor during the traineeship scheduled visit. If not available during the visit, please complete the tasks (via video/Smart phone recording) with a nominated person. The trainer will complete the checklist based on the trainer/assessor’s observation or your submission. You can use programs to submit your role play, such as OneDrive (Hotmail users) Google Drive (Gmail users) or Dropbox. This assessment contains the following: · 3 x role plays · 1 x feedback / complaints form · 1 x Checklist Step by Step Instructions (for classroom and distance students) 1. You are required to familiarise yourself with the information provided on the role plays (scenarios) in the following pages. 2. You will need to nominate a person to complete the role play with. They are required to sign their name in the section ‘nominated person’ in this table. 3. Conduct role play 1 with nominated person 4. Conduct role play 2 with nominated person and complete the complaints / feedback form 5. Conduct role play 3 with nominated person 6. Trainer / assessor or third party will complete the checklist |

Scenario 1
It is 9 am on Monday morning, you have just commenced work. Your manager has asked you to attend a meeting that will take up most of the morning and you are already behind in your workload from last week. You would like to ask the manager if you can be excluded from this meeting and arrange another time to go through the meeting outcomes.
You do not want to upset your manager, but you know you cannot complete your tasks from last week and attend the meeting at the same times.
Role Play instructions -
- Your discussion needs to include negotiating your attendance at the meeting
- Completion of outstanding tasks
- Requesting solutions and or suggestions from the manager
Scenario 2
Its 10.30 am and your team leader has asked you to complete a task quickly. She has asked in a rude and abrupt manner during your morning tea break. You have concerns as each day she seems to request these additional tasks during break times, so you miss out on breaks regularly.
She has said ‘if you don’t complete this task, you will be working back today, I am tired of you taking
breaks while I am working’
Role Play instructions -
- Your discussion with the manager needs to include the way you have been communicated with and solutions or suggestions
- You are required to complete the complaints / feedback form on the following page
Scenario 3
Your manager has partnered you with a new staff member to complete your daily tasks in your role. The manager has requested that you train this new person.
You commence your tasks but are finding it quite difficult as the new staff member has limited English skills and is not understanding your instructions. You try to communicate slower and with more non-verbal actions, but the staff member does not comprehend anything you are communicating.
Role Play instructions -
- Your discussion needs to include your concerns to the manager
- Any suggestions you may have to assist the new staff member
