BUSM4163 Reflective Insights on Digital Transformation Consulting

Introduction:

This report is a reflective piece aiming to highlight on the context of working as a consultant in a professional industry. The report aims to provide context about the roles and responsibilities that are required to be possessed by a consultant working in a professional context. Moreover, this report also talks about the number of opportunities experienced by the consultants working in a specific field of interest, which in this report is digital transformation consultation. The report begins with the analysis of the opportunities for consulting in the professional context, which is mainly reflective, as it presents an analysis of the past experiences of working as a trainee consultant at a consultation firm in Australia. This section also reflects on the different consulting roles that would be involved in overcoming the potential consultation problems of the clients.

Furthermore, the next section of this report is based on the assessment of the current strengths and weaknesses, which have been considered in relation to a chosen job role. In this section, the strengths and weaknesses has been considered against the roles and responsibilities mentioned in the job role, which is followed by a detailed gap analysis discussing the themes, observations and impacts of the gaps at an organisational level. 

The third and last section is based on the development of a strategic action plan. The purpose of this section is to design and develop a strategic action plan, using the SMART objectives, where the identified gaps of skills can be considered and worked upon, in order to get competent and potential for the chosen job role and to meet the requirements of the consulting opportunities identified.

Analysis of the opportunities for consulting in the professional context:

Information technology and digitalisation have always been my fields of interest, and my passion for exploring and learning new digital solutions and technologies and practising them in the real world encouraged me to work as a digital transformation consultant trainee in a business management and consultation firm in Australia. Working as a trainee in the consultation industry, my role was to interact with potential clients (firms), identifying and understanding their main strategic or operational issues and transforming the business models, strategies or operations of the firms by providing digital transformation solutions and ideas.
