Assessor Instructions
The Practical Assessment is a set of tasks that must be completed in a workplace, or in an environment with conditions similar to that of a real workplace.
This assessment will help the candidate demonstrate skill requirements relevant to leading work health and safety (WHS) risk management.
The Practical Assessment includes the following:
Project Assessment
A set of tasks or activities completed according to set instructions and guidelines to meet the requirements of the relevant unit. These tasks and activities require you to have access to a workplace or a similar environment.

Part 1 – Risk Management Plan
1.1 Internal WHS Risk Management Information and Data
| This task requires you to access internal or workplace sources of WHS risk management information and data that apply to the following areas:
§ Hazard identification § Risk assessment § Risk controls This is to assist you in understanding: § The nature and scope of your organisation’s WHS risk management. § Your organisation’s requirements for WHS risk management. § Organisation-specific factors that impact hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk controls. Read the instructions carefully before proceeding. Steps to take: 1. Locate the Risk Management Plan template in the following pages (provided). This template outlines the information you need to record while accessing workplace sources of WHS risk management information and data. Review the instructions here as well as the contents of the Risk Management Plan template so you can prepare for this task. 2. Using a workplace / simulated environment complete the risk management plan template for either a residential or commercial construction project. Your assessor will guide you through this process |
Part 2 – Evaluate Effectiveness
| This task requires you to meet with the required personnel to communicate the outcome of your risk assessment, and review and evaluate the effectiveness of the WHS risk management process
IMPORTANT: Read the instructions carefully before proceeding. Steps to take: 1. Locate the Meeting Minutes template in the following pages. The Meeting Minutes will be used to document your discussion 2. Your assessor will divide the class in to groups for the purpose of your discussion 3. In your groups you will be required to do the following: § Communicate the outcome of your risk assessment § Review the effectiveness of your implemented risk management process § Discuss your evaluation findings § Document your discussion in meeting minutes 4. Upon completion of your meeting, modify your risk management process as required in response to the evaluation IMPORTANT: After completing this task you will need to submit: 1. Meeting Minutes 2. Modified risk management plan |
