ABC Marketing Group is a specialist marketing company and marketing consultancy that works with clients as their outsourced marketing manager, providing professional marketing advice and hands-on support to make sure good ideas become reality. ABC Marketing Group is based at 199 Palmers Court, Melton, Victoria 3050. The company currently employs ten (10) office staff. Amy Jackson is the Office Manager. As an Office Manager, part of Amy’s job is to conduct regular Hazard Inspections and Risk Assessment and Management.
The remaining nine (9) staff include receptionist (Emily King), office-based phone consultants (Mary Anne, Paula Jenkins, Robert Green) and five (5) mobile consultants who work from the office one day a week. The rest of the time they are busy visiting clients providing professional marketing advice.

PART A
For this task you are Amy Jackson and SHIC is the simulated work environment which will be used as the office for ABC Marketing Group. Identify at least five (5) or more hazards and complete the Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment Checklist (Appendix A).
After you identify existing and potential hazards in the workplace, implement procedures to control the risks, and advise the methods of eliminating/reducing the risk using the Hierarchy of Control (Appendix B Risk Assessment Table).
PART B
After completing the Hazard Checklist, complete the following;
- In an email to the work team, explain the hazards that have been identified and the action that will be taken to control the hazard/risk. Explain why it is important for staff to consult with the WHS representative, Human Resources or a manager when they come across a health and safety risk in the
- Apply a process for staff to follow when they encounter a hazard in the workplace.
- Based on the hazards identified monitor the outcomes of the hazards Explain where a copy of the reports can be accessed and who can access them.
PART C
There has been an accident in the office reception area of the workplace. The date is the 6th August. Emily King, the receptionist, was walking over to the printer to pick up the printed invoice, when she tripped over a computer cord that was lying carelessly on the ground. You witness the whole incident occurring at 10.15am.
Emily has injured her left leg. Her knee in particular has sustained a large graze from the carpet and the knee has started to swell. You have contacted the First Aid Officer on duty, Helen Edwards, who has determined that although Emily is in pain her leg is not broken. Helen administers a cold ice pack to Emily’s left knee and once initial pain subsides she cleans the graze and bandages the knee appropriately.
You are to document the incident on the Workplace Incident Report Form (Appendix C).
