What is this assessment task about? | For this assessment task, you will be using the premises of Greenwich Management College (GMC) or an alternative venue as instructed by the trainer and assessor as a simulated work environment and your assessor will play the role of your manager.
This task comprises of the following assessment methods: o Product-based ☒ o Direct observation of Role-Play ☒ o Case Study ☐ o Other (specify) ☐ It has been designed to evaluate your ability to/competency in: · Identify organisational WHS policies and procedures that apply to own work setting · Carry out work tasks according to WHS instructions · Carry out pre-start systems and equipment checks under supervision and according to organisational policies and procedures · Participate in responding to incidents according to organisational policies and procedures · Identify individuals and/or parties to whom queries and concerns about safety in the workplace should be directed · Identify existing and potential hazards relating to own role, and record and report them according to organisational policies and procedures · Identify and contribute to implementing WHS instructions and organisational policies and procedures specific to own work area · Identify and report incidents and injuries to required personnel according to organisational policies and procedures · Contribute to workplace meetings, inspections, and other WHS consultative activities · Identify existing and potential WHS hazards and report them to designated persons according to organisational policies and procedures · Participate in actions to minimise or eliminate workplace hazards and to reduce risks · actively participate in two different work activities that contribute to the health and safety of self and others · identify and report at least one hazard to designated personnel. Your assessor will be looking for demonstrated evidence of your competency in the above. You are required to address the following: · Task 2.1 – Conduct a workplace hazard inspection 1. Review scenario, policies and procedures, and templates. 2. Conduct a hazard inspection of GMC or alternative venue and identify individuals and/or parties to whom queries and concerns about safety in the workplace should be directed 3. Communicate with your manager to discuss your findings and ways of managing the hazards · Task 2.2 – Work Collaboratively to implement WHS requirements and processes 1. Conduct a hazard inspection of a room prior to a meeting being conducted in the room 2. Also prior to the meeting, run a pre-start systems and equipment check on the meeting room. 3. Participate in a meeting, discussing your initial hazard check of GMC, treatments for the hazards, and GMC critical incident procedures Respond to and document a WHS incident that occurs towards the end of the meeting. 4. Write a safety report to your manager about the findings of the meeting 5. Write an email to your manager with the safety report and incident report attached Although the assessment requires group collaboration to simulate a work environment, the assessment submission is individual, and it will be marked as such. |

Re-assessment attempt(s) will be arranged at a later time and date. Complete the following activities:
Task 2.1 – Conduct a workplace hazard inspection
- Review the assessment scenario, documentation and templates.
- Conduct a workplace hazard inspection of GMC or an alternative venue as instructed by the trainer and assessor. Print out a copy of the Workplace Inspection Checklist template (1) and obtain a pen to fill the form out with. Alternatively, you can complete it digitally.
Fill in the checklist and then write the recommended actions to treat the hazards identified at the bottom of the form.
Ask at GMC’s reception (or delegate) for information on individuals and/or parties to whom queries and concerns about safety in the workplace should be directed. You must identify the individuals, the duties they perform at GMC, and their role with respect to WHS. Make a note of these details in the space provided below.
- Write an email to your manager, played by the trainer and assessor to send the report and to inform them of the findings of the report (summary of the report, 30-50 words)
Task 2.2 Work collaboratively to contribute to implementing WHS requirements and processes.
Schedule a time with the trainer and assessor in week 4 of the term and meet with your colleagues to discuss the results of your hazard inspections of GMC’s premises in task 2.1 (15 minutes).
Prior to the meeting, you must:
- conduct a hazard inspection of the room
- run a pre-start systems and equipment check
Your trainer and assessor will evaluate your performance while conducting the hazard inspection, completing the pre-start check and during the meeting.
If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to make alternative arrangements with the trainer and assessor to perform the Role-Play.
- Prior to conducting the safety meeting, you must conduct a hazard inspection of the room in which the meeting will take place.
Print out a copy of the room Hazard Inspection Checklist template, and take it to the meeting room with you, as well as a pen to fill the form out with. Alternatively, you can complete the form digitally.
When you have completed the hazard inspection, show your Hazard Inspection Checklist to your assessor, who is there in the role of your manager. Your manager will ask you about the hazards that you have identified, and the corrective action that you have taken for each.
You will be assessed on whether you have correctly identified the hazards and suitable corrective actions.
Template 2 – Hazard inspection checklist
- In addition to the hazard inspection, you are required to prepare the equipment that will be used during the meeting.
Although all of the equipment necessary for the meeting is present, it is may not yet be functional. Run a pre-start systems and equipment check on the meeting room.
Your assessor will watch you performing this, so tell them what you are doing as you perform the tasks, and how they will help to prevent injury during the meeting.
- Conduct a meeting in which you discuss your workplace hazard inspection of GMC with your colleagues. You should conduct the meeting with at least two other students.
Go through each of the hazards that you identified, and the actions that you have recommended. Discuss at least two- three hazards with your colleagues and record the hazards and treatments suggested in the Team Safety Meeting Template.
The meeting should take about 15 minutes.

At the end of the meeting, an incident occurred.
As everyone was leaving the meeting room, one of your colleagues – Terence Shalin – tripped over a box containing A4 paper and fell heavily, hurting his wrist.
