Performance objective

To demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to develop and communicate a business plan. The Assessment Task is due on the date specified by your assessor.

Assessment description

In this assessment you are required to develop a business plan to support the company’s strategic and operational goals.

Procedure

  1. Use your current workplace or a familiar business to create a business plan.
  2. Review and evaluate pre-existing business and operational plan, if available
  3. Review market requirements, financial, human and physical resource requirements
  4. Consult with your assessor (assume the assessor is a key stakeholder) and discuss and agree upon performance objectives and measures.
  5. Document a business plan to assist the organisation to achieve its goals. The business plan must include the following:
    1. Table of contents
    2. Executive summary
    3. Introduction/business background
    4. Business vision, mission and/or values
    5. Business products and services
    6. Customer’s profile and needs
    7. Marketing activity – the market
    8. Business operations:
      1. productivity and performance targets for key result areas (in consultation with key stakeholders)
      2. include financial and non-financial performance measures
  • detail resource requirements, including human resources, capital equipment and other resources required to achieve business goals
  1. Management and organisational structure
  2. Risks (risk analysis)
    1. include a section on how you will ensure skilled labour is available to implement the plan, such as a recruitment or training strategy
  3. Licensing
    1. include any permits or licences required
  4. Conclusion
  1. Present the business plan to your assessor (assume the assessor is a key stakeholder).

Your assessor will be looking for:

  • analyse and research business vision, mission, values, objectives, goals, competitors, financial targets, management arrangements, marketing approaches and strategic, business and operational plans
  • write a business plan which includes a description of the business, products and services, financial, physical and human resource requirements, permit and licence requirements, marketing activity, financial indicators, productivity and performance targets for key result areas
  • implement a business plan including ensuring skilled labour is available, and that training is provided where appropriate
