Task:
- Design and produce a multimodal text that can be used in literacy education
- Explain, with reference to theory, how the text will be used as a teaching resource for a specified group of learners
Further information on the two parts of this assessment task
Part 1) Design and produce a multimodal text that can be used in literacy education Your multimodal text can function as
- a model for what you want your EAL/D learners to produce (e.g. a poster displaying a specific, multilingual Linguistic Landscape; a Photovoice display; a zine based on a Fairytale)
- Identity texts Video texts
- Linguistic Landscapes Fairy tales, picture books
- Graphic novels Artifacts
- Songs Photovoice
Part 2) Explain in summary form, with reference to theory, how the text will be used as a teaching resource for a specific group of learners
Your written text needs to explain:
- the profile of intended learners (100-200 words approx)
- age, location, purpose in studying English, language background, English proficiency level
- the aim of your lesson/s or unit of work (200-300 words )
- what aspect of literacy you aiming to teach? (be specific)
- What are the learning objectives (specific goals)?
- how does your multimodal text function as part of the lesson?
- the purpose of your multimodal text (Part 1) (400-500 words approx)
- what topic is the text about, why have you designed it in this way, how will it be used in the lesson/s? Is it a set of instructions or model for learners, or is it a teacher’s guide?
- the stages of the lesson/s? (600-800 words approx)
- clearly show what will happen at each stage in terms of scaffolded literacy development
- show detailed scaffolding of learning in one section (use an appendix for any handouts etc)
- match lesson stages to the Part 1 text where appropriate
- if Part 1 is a set of ppt slides, match the lesson stages to specific slide numbers
