Assignment 1 - Individual Presentation

Creativity and Me a self-assessment, personal reflection and action plan

For this assignment you have complete freedom on how you deliver your content - as long as it is a form of a digital presentation. You can choose to: record yourself presenting a standard Powerpoint presentation with voiceover; create a website with video content; make a video essay; role play a video interview; make a video podcast; create a scrapbook; devise anything else as long as you address all of the topics below and you present the content as a presentation that is easily accessible and assessable. We encourage, but do not require you to try Adobe Express for this assignment.

What we do not want? A report! You do enough of those.

It can be a series of different formats and delivery. You will be familiar with most of the topics in the list as we will have discussed them in class or have done some reading/watching from Canvas content of course you have to do a bit of homework, personal reflection and get creative! *Please Note: Any items that we ask you to complete you are not easily able to make a part of your presentation, they can be attached separately as part of your submission. For example the creativity worksheet, reference it in your chosen presentation format, and simply attached the completed form as a separate document when you submit. The ideal presentation should be between 7 and 8 minutes.

The presentation must not exceed 10 minutes. Instructors will immediately stop viewing at the 10 minute mark and any content beyond this point will not be evaluated. Topics and instructions

  1. DESIGN THE COVER OF YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY: Imagine you are in the process of writing your autobiography. Design the cover, include an image of yourself, the title, subtitle, and write a 200 word (or less) summary of the publication. (This may be done creatively and reflective of your chosen way to present). It should include an extension of at least five years beyond today (you can go further into the future if you like). Reflect on this exercise.

  2. CREATIVITY POEM: Write a poem consisting of a minimum of four poetic lines on an aspect of creativity. You should provide a recording of yourself or someone else reciting the poem. Your theme is 'risk of creativity', and below is one of the submissions (author shall remain anonymous). Reflect on creating this artifact and the connection between risk and creativity. I wanted to write a line What kept me was the fear that people would know it was mine

and their laughter is all I would hear!

  1. WHERE CREATIVITY COMES FROM - EXAMPLES OF WHEN YOU WERE CREATIVE AND NOT: Having read the article by Amabile, The componential theory of creativity, identify an example from your work, life or study where you were creative and how this reflects the different components. Secondly, identify a missed chance to be creative and what was missing. How do these examples reflect what is noted by Amabile and your understanding of where creativity comes from and what enables or hinders it? Having engaged in this, reflect on this in personal terms.
  2. JOHN CLEESE ON CREATIVITY AND YOUR SPACE TIME OASIS: Tell us your main takeaways from these materials, and why? What does your ideal personal space time oasis look like (at home)? What are the potential pitfalls to successfully implement your personal space time oasis? What are some good principles for constructing one in the workplace? Show us what works for you.
  3. CONNECTING THE DOTS: Building off a concept promoted by Steve Jobs, briefly reflect on the last time you connected a couple or more dots. Share the connections. In hindsight, what were the underlying factors that made it possible to make those connections?
  4. CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION: SELF-REFLECTION WORKSHEET (link to document below): Rate yourself on each of the items listed. In your presentation, you should identify and briefly reflect on the top five issues that you would like to improve upon in future.
  5. NEW INSIGHTS: Hopefully you have come across something really interesting or new about creativity that you would like to share. Tell us your final reflections and include a reflection on working with and creating your digital format. Content and links relevant to some of the above tasks:
