Assessment Summary

For this assessment, you are required to utilise the reflective self-assessment you completed for assessment 1 and develop an action plan targeting the specific professional practice and learning needs identified. In this action plan, you are to identify and explain how you are going to meet these learning needs and meet registration requirements for Registered Nurses in Australia. Therefore, you are going to outline the actions you are going to take, the resources/equipment that you will need for these actions and a timeline of when these actions are going to be completed.

Context

This assessment provides you the opportunity to continue with your SWOT analysis and follow-through on the opportunities you identified to build on the identified weaknesses in order to make them into strengths. The completion of a SWOT analysis without any respective actions is ineffective and fails to result in any changes or advancements. Therefore, the completion of the action plan targeting your specific learning needs will aid you in your preparation for registration as a Registered nurse in Australia.

Furthermore, the development of this action plan will benefit you when writing graduate nurse applications and partaking in graduate nurse interviews as you will be fully aware of your strengths and weaknesses and able to articulate what you have done to improve on these. You are required to develop an action plan targeting your identified learning needs from assessment 1. In this action plan of 1,800 words, you are to choose three (3) learning needs, one of which must be related to interprofessional collaboration and/or teamwork. At least (two) must involve healthcare practices where there are safety issues and risks to be managed.

Consider the following for each learning need:

1. Identify and explain what quality improvement activities (actions) you need to undertake to meet this learning need and thus the registration requirements for Registered Nurses in Australia and the risks to yourself professionally and patient safety, if this learning need remains unmet.
2. Identify and explain the relevant environmental and professional safety tools and skills, and any further resources, equipment and time requirements needed for each quality improvement activity.
3. Develop a clear, concise timeline illustrating when the above actions will occur and be completed to ensure safe healthcare practices are learnt prior to registration.
4. Provide an explanation of the link between equipping yourself with this new knowledge and the development of situational awareness of these safe healthcare practices to ensuring personal and patient safety are maintained.
