This assessment relates to the following Learning Outcomes:

  1. Identify myths associated with drug use and challenge their veracity
  2. Evaluate strategies to minimise harm to individuals and the community

Instructions

You may choose either Option A OR B (Do NOT complete A AND B)

Option A

  1. Explain an assessment and/or treatment option for a particular drug or group of drugs
  2. Evaluate the success of your chosen option
  3. Analyse any challenges associated with the use of this assessment and/or treatment option in a particular setting.
  4. Provide at least four ‘take home’ messages from this assessment

OR

Option B

Identify a campaign or strategy aimed at minimising the harm to individuals and/or the community associated with drug use.

Analyse this campaign or strategy by addressing the following:

  1. Explain the underpinning philosophy or reasoning behind this strategy.
  2. Describe the group or community that this campaign or strategy is targeting.
  3. Explain how the effectiveness of this campaign or strategy can be measured.
  4. Argue whether this campaign or strategy is effective or will be effective in the future.
  5. Provide at least four ‘take home messages’ from this assessment.

Literature and references

In this assessment use literature of no more than 10 years old (from peer-reviewed sources) to demonstrate broad consideration of your alternate nursing interventions.

You may also use seminal scholarly literature where relevant.

Suitable references include peer-reviewed journal articles as well as textbooks and credible websites.

When sourcing information, consider the five elements of a quality reference: currency, authority, relevance, objectivity, and coverage. Grey literature sourced from the internet must be from reputable websites such as from government, university, or peak national bodies: for example, the Australian College of Nursing.

Requirements

  • Use a conventional and legible size 12 font, such as Times New Roman or Arial, with 1.5 line spacing and 2.54cm page margins (standard pre-set margin in Microsoft Word).
  • Include page numbers on each page in a footer.
  • Use formal academic language
  • Use the seventh edition American Psychological Association (APA) referencing style. The CQUniversity Academic Learning Centre has an online APA Referencing Style Guide.
  • Word count is calculated from the first word of the introduction to the last word of the conclusion. The word count INCLUDES in-text references and direct quotations.
  • The word count does NOT include cover page, abstract, contents page, reference page and appendices.

Submission

Submit your assessment via the unit Moodle site in Microsoft Word format only.

Reattempt

If  you receive a Fail for this assessment, you will be allowed to re-attempt the assessment.

Your assessment re-attempt must be  completed and submitted within 14 days of receiving a mark for the initial assessment.

Please note that that the maximum marks for a re-attempt is 50% of the available marks for the assessment. 

If you do decide not to re-attempt, your original Fail mark will be applied.
