Welcome to ACCTG 219: Essentials of Accounting Course Overview: This course introduces you to the concepts and fundamentals of financial and managerial accounting. You will gain an understanding of accounting (the 'language of business') and apply this understanding to businesses and your personal life. You will evaluate accounting decision making from the perspectives of both external users, such as investors and creditors, and internal users, such as managers. The course is organized by modules, which typically correspond to weeks in the Quarter. 11Review & Managerial Accounting Assessment Course Format:Each module will provide you with a variety of learning experiences.You can expect the following types of activities throughout the Quarter: Live Sessions:The course meets live each week on Zoom on Wednesdays at the scheduled class time. All sessions will be recorded in case you have any internet issues while logged on. In addition, if my internet goes out, I'll use my cell phone data to send out a Canvas announcement with next steps. Readings:The course will include several readings from a variety of different sources. The readings will be made available as a link in the Canvas module. Video:Most modules will include several short video segments that cover important topics in the Module. Bi-Weekly Module Quizzes:Some modules will include quizzes that focus on key concepts discussed in that module and should be completed at the assigned class time on the schedule (or alternative time provided if a quiz date falls on a UW holiday). Exams:The course has two exams during the quarter. Test Your Knowledge:Modules will include a chance to practice the concepts from the videos. You can take the Test Your Knowledge's as many times as you would like and only your highest attempt will be counted. Bi-Weekly TA Review Sessions: Every two weeks there will be an optional review session hosted by your TA on Zoom. See the Canvas schedule for dates and times. Course Materials: Optional: Survey of Accounting, 2ndedition by Paul Kimmel and Jerry Weygandt, Publisher: Wiley(ISBN: 978- 1-119-59134-4) Grading Policies Submitting Assignments: All assignments will be submitted via Canvas. All exams and quizzes will be set up as Canvas quizzes. Late or Missed Assignments: Exams:If you are unable to take the exam at the scheduled time due to an excused absence (e.g., medical, funeral), you must contact your instructor at least 24 hours before the scheduled date and arrange a time. Exceptions may be given for unexpected emergencies yet these will be determined on a case by case basis at my discretion. Quizzes:Your lowest scored quiz is dropped at the end of the quarter. No make-up quizzes or late quizzes will be accepted since you can drop your lowest quiz grade. Test Your Knowledge Questions:Your two lowest scored test your knowledges are dropped at the end of the quarter. No make-up or late assignments will be accepted since two of the Test Your Knowledges are dropped. Practice Worksheet Submissions:Your two lowest scored worksheet submissions are dropped at the end of the quarter. No make-up or late assignments will be accepted since two of your lowest scored assignments in this category are dropped.
