Purpose

Imagine you are a senior manager of a healthcare service or government agency that has a problem, and a colleague or consultant has suggested that a digital health solution could overcome the problem. You can choose one from the following topics:

1. A remote patient monitoring program for people with cardiovascular disease in an urban Australian hospital

2. Teleconsultations for mental health in a regional Australian clinic

3. An mHealth app to promote physical activity in urban India

4. An electronic decision support system for antenatal care in rural Indonesia

Once you have selected the healthcare problem and digital health solution that you want to focus on, this assessment task asks you to explain the importance of the healthcare problem and research and analyse the suitability of the digital health solution that you think would solve the problem.

Task Details

Your task is to clearly state the problem that your digital health solution aims to address, then to develop an argument to support the digital health solution that could address the problem. You will then critically evaluate the proposed solution including its potential implementation, adoption, and usability within the selected healthcare environment. (Note: no primary research is expected---you are expected to research the problem and solution from published literature.)

Your research proposal should include the following components:

1. Title of the report. It should concisely summarise the problem and solution you are proposing. (Example: "Increasing access to healthcare in rural India through a remote digital diagnostic solution")

2. Introduction/ Problem Statement
   Identify and describe the specific problem in your healthcare service or community and explain why this problem is important and worth addressing. Ensure that the context is also clearly explained, and that your problem statement is supported with relevant and credible evidence.

3. The Proposed Solution
   Describe the proposed digital health solution, then discuss how you think it will address the problem and support your argument with relevant and credible evidence.

4. Implementation Considerations
   Based on your understanding of the solution from the literature, discuss the considerations that you think will be important for successful implementation within your health service or target community. Remember that you are trying to argue for this solution to be implemented, so if you have concerns, you should also propose how to minimise potential issues. This section should address the following:

   a. Usability of the proposed solution for end-users (healthcare providers, patients, etc.)
   b. Managing this change within your organisation or government
   c. Resources (technological, financial, human) required for successful implementation
   d. Potential ethical and legal issues
   e. Ensuring equity for end-users of the digital health solution
   f. Privacy and security considerations
   g. Interoperability with other systems already in use

5. Conclusion
   Concisely summarise the key points of the problem and proposed solution, as well as any key recommendations you think would help ensure a successful adoption of the proposed solution.

6. References
   Include a list of [at least 7]{.underline} references cited in your proposal in APA7 style. For more detailed information about referencing, see the Deakin referencing guide.

How the work will be assessed and expected standard
The work will be assessed against the rubric criteria using the marking rubric, below. Please review the rubric to ensure you understand it and post any questions on the Discussion Board.

Note that 10% of marks are allocated for clear, scientific writing, including correct use of APA7 reference style in this assessment. Please also note the word limit. Reports that are considerably beyond the guidance upper limits may not be assessed.
