Task details
In this assessment task, you will report on the findings of your research project. There are two parts to this task:
AT3a – Presentation of findings (15-minute presentation & 15-minute discussion, 1500w equivalent) (10 points)
In weeks 11 to 12, you will present your industry-based project to peers and invited industry partners and academics online during a scheduled class. Your presentation will take no longer than 15 minutes and should provide an explanation of the problem, the methods of data collection and analysis, the key findings, and associated recommendations to improve current teaching and/or educational leadership practice. This will follow with a 15-minute Q&A and discussion.
You will use PowerPoint slides for your presentation with each of the sections of your report on one slide ONLY. Please use the PowerPoint presentation template on LMS. You will, then, upload your presentation slides on LMS.
AT3b – Project report (5000w) (45 points)
Write a full report using the following structure:
Introduction—problem and context (suggested 380w)
-
Identify the key elements of the problem that prompted the project
-
Note any relevant contextual factors (inc. expectations or boundaries of the partner)
-
Ideas from the proposal or excerpts from some sections may be used. However, it is essential for the ideas to delve deeper than those presented in the proposal, demonstrating the development of your concepts.
When writing this section, use the suggested bullet points and consider creating a discussion that presents a meaningful image of the context and the associated problem. You may use literature to support your ideas.
Literature review (suggested 1500w)
-
Define key concepts
-
Synthesise existing relevant research, scholarly literature and/or grey literature
-
Highlight any tensions, doubt or debate about key assumptions or findings
-
Identify knowledge weaknesses or gaps in the field
-
Ideas from the proposal or excerpts from some sections may be used. However, it is essential for the ideas to delve deeper than those presented in the proposal, demonstrating the development of your concepts.
You need to present the discussion of the literature review in a way that leads the reader to understand the problem and why it is important to address the research question presented in the next section. Overall, your literature review needs to be discussed through the lens of the research problem and context, ultimately guiding the reader to the research question.
Aims, rationale & research question (suggested 120w)
-
Articulate your research question, reflecting close engagement with the research literature and analysis of the problem
-
Identify the overall aim (i.e., goal or purpose) that answering the question will help to achieve
Be mindful of the terms and concepts used in the research question. Have they all been thoroughly unpacked and discussed in the preceding two sections? There should be no new ideas and concepts for the reader when they arrive at the research question and aims.
Research Design (suggested 500w)
-
What data did you collect, from whom or what sources, and how?
-
What data collection tools, if any, did you create and/or use?
-
What ethical considerations did you address, and how?
-
How did you analyse the data that you collected to produce.
In this section, you need to demonstrate how you went about to answer your research question through your data collection tools, data collection procedures, and data analysis. You also need to explain the time, context, and ethical restrictions that impacted your method. The content and details of your method section should be so clear that if any reader decides to replicate your study, they will be able to use the method section of your report as their guideline.
