Hi, my name is [insert name], and my Pecha Kucha presentation is on emotional intelligence. So lets begin with having a conceptual overview of emotional intelligence!

Slide 2:

Understanding of the concept of EI

Emotional intelligence is defined as the ability of an individual to monitor one’s own feelings, as well as the feelings and emotions of others, and to make use of this information to think upon and to act upon (Kevin, 2023). A person who is highly emotionally intelligent is able to sense his/her own feelings and is capable of understanding the emotions, expectations, sentiments and perceptions of others as well.

Considering emotional intelligence as an ability to be developed or a static trait-like characteristic is still a debate of concern among various researchers. However, some theorists say that emotional intelligence is an ability that can be developed among humans, and every human has the tendency to develop this trait (Kevin, 2023). This ability however not only helps in the assessment of emotions and feelings but also assists individuals in decision-making and managing interpersonal relationships in a social environment.

The four Quadrants of Golemen’s model of EI:

The four basic quadrants of emotional intelligence include self-awareness, relationship management, social awareness and self-management. Goleman has shown a deep association between emotional intelligence and organisational effectiveness and leadership (Kevin, 2023).

Slide 4:

Self-awareness:

According to Goleman’s emotional intelligence model, self-awareness includes three basic competencies. One of them is emotional self-awareness, which is the ability of an individual to detect and understand emotions along with being able to assess the impact of those emotions in a professional context. The other ability is accurate self-assessment when a person is able to realistically evaluate weaknesses and strengths, the next is self-confidence, which allows an individual to portray a positive and strong self-worth.

Slide 5:

Self-Management:

This quadrant is further decomposed into 5 basic skills, including self-control, which is the bailey of a person to control impulses and emotions in certain situations. The next competency is transparency, which relates to the management of honesty and responsibility. Another competency is adaptability, referring to the ability of a person to adapt to different situations and imitate flexibility. Next is achievement drive which is the internal tendency and motivation of a person towards achievement and excellence, and the last is initiative, referring to the ability to encash opportunities.
