XYZ CATERING Purpose The Privacy Act regulates the way individuals' personal information is handled. As an individual, the Privacy Act gives you greater control over the way that your personal information is handled. Policy A privacy policy is a statement that explains in simple language how an organisation or agency handles your personal information. Any organisation or agency the Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act) covers must have a privacy policy. Procedures The Privacy Act regulates the way individuals'personal informationis handled. As an individual, the Privacy Act gives you greater control over the way that your personal information is handled. The Privacy Act allows you to:  know why your personal information is beingcollected,how it will be used and who it will be disclosed to  have the option of not identifying yourself, or of using a pseudonym in certain circumstances.  ask foraccessto your personal information (including yourhealth information)  stop receiving unwanteddirect marketing  ask for your personal information that isincorrect to be corrected  make a complaintabout an organisation or agency the Privacy Act covers, if you think they've mishandled your personal information. Regulatory Compliance Requirements 1.Ensure you have a Privacy Policy. A Privacy Policy is a standard document for a business that receives or handles personal information. 2.Develop a Privacy Manual. A privacy policy is of limited use if your employees do not understand its purpose or enforcement. 3.Establish some barriers There are some practical methods to ensure compliance with the Australian Privacy Principles. This can range from limiting access to personal information to those who need it to perform their everyday tasks 4.Inform Your Customers. Customers may be releasing their information through various means. Although it is often quite easy or straightforward to collect personal information, you do need to consider your obligations. Use active methods to ensure that your customers remain informed about your Privacy Policy. This could be through a link or pop-up on your website.
