The purpose of this assessment is to develop your capability to analyse and deal with complicated issues in the international business context using the knowledge learnt in this course. You also are encouraged to theorise your thoughts and arguments by establishing the link between key constructs illuminated in your focal case.
Learning Outcomes
The targeted Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) for this assessment are:
- CLO1: Articulate and apply concepts and theories relating to the management of MNCs
- CLO2: Understand the difficulty and challenge of managing MNCs due to complex external and internal factors
- CLO3: Critically examine MNCs’ managerial activities by integrating theory and practice and offer valuable recommendations
- CLO4: Conduct applied research on MNC management and engage confidently in the discussion of real-world issues
Marking Criteria
This assessment will measure your ability to:
- Provide robust analysis of company
- Theorisation of learning outcomes
- Forming a Conceptual Framework which aims to assist MNC managers in staying competitive and engaging effectively in the discussion of real-world issues. The framework should consist of:
* Dynamic Capabilities: MNCs’ ability to adapt and sustain competitive advantage.
* Resiliency and Sustainability: MNCs’ approaches to building resilient and sustainable operations.
- Produce a well-structured and written report in adherence with academic writing and referencing guidelines
Assessment Details
In this assessment, you need to work on a recent real-world case (an actual event or incident of a focal company) regarding MNC management. Specifically, you should identify the case, analyse how it occurred, what went wrong (or successfully), and highlight the implications for managers facing the similar situation. Note that the case should cover three main listed themes in global business environment, i.e. Dynamic Capabilities, Resiliency and Sustainability.
Dynamic Capabilities: Assess how the company leveraged or failed to leverage its dynamic capabilities to respond to the situation.
Resiliency: Evaluate the company's resiliency in the face of challenges and its ability to recover or adapt.
Sustainability: Examine the sustainability practices involved in the case, considering both short-term and long-term impacts on the company and its stakeholders.
Your analysis must be based on both the factual materials and academic knowledge. After conducting the analysis on a selected company, you are expected to provide a theoretical framework (including constructs and causal links) to illustrate your viewpoint on the company.
This report is a group work (up to 4 students in a group) and has a word limit up to 2,000, excluding references and appendix. You may seek advice on the choice of case from your teacher before commencing the work
