Master of Professional Accountancy at UC San Diego: A Stepping

School: California State University, Fullerton - Course: MGMT 449 - Subject: Accounting

Ever since my college years, aiming for a successful career in accounting has always been my main focus over the courses offered at school. Even though the Bachelor's degree in Accounting I obtained from California State University Fullerton was helpful when I started my career, I often struggled at work because of my lack of experience in public accounting. In the past year, I usually asked my coworkers to explain certain terms or tax forms and brushed up my knowledge by re-reading lecture notes from college to compensate for my shortcomings. Even though they were dedicated and supportive, help was not always available, and I found myself not knowledgeable enough to venture further into my career on my own. Therefore, my research has led me to believe that pursuing the Master of Professional Accountancy at the University of California, San Diego is the next ideal move. That is, to excel in the ever-competitive accounting world, I must seek knowledge beyond my undergraduate understanding to give my career a significant boost. One of my goals is to become a Certified Public Accountant, and so through the program, I will gain the required knowledge more in-depth and obtain enough credits to sit for the exams to become an ethical accountant. My upbringing in Vietnam has taught me a great deal about the concept of giving and being kind to others. Growing up in a third-world country, I feel incredibly fortunate to be born into a loving family with full financial and emotional support. Ever since I was a child, I often saw poverty-stricken people who had no other choice than to wander the streets with a stack of lottery tickets, a basket of fruits, or bamboo sticks to sell to other people. "They" could be a five-year-old kid, a disabled man, or an elder who deserves to be taken care of, but instead, they all tried to make ends meet. They had to, for survival. Most of the time, they receive cold head shakes or plain ignorance from people who look down on them, which makes their jobs even more miserable. Many of these people also struggled with astronomical medical bills or tuition at school for some underprivileged children. The countless stories I have seen and heard from the media over the years filled my heart with deep sympathy and an intense yearning to

help. As a result, I have always treated them with respect and a little bit of cash whenever possible. Therefore, one of my biggest desires is to become a successful entrepreneurial leader to give more to help the less fortunate, and the MPAc program is a stepping stone for me to make that positive impact in the world. The more people I can lend a hand to, the more meaningful life is for me
