I feel that leaders are born but a person can be trained to lead as well. I have seen some people that are more comfortable leading naturally than others and will take control without being asked to do so and i have also encountered those that would not take the lead until either asked to do so or until they see that there is no one else to lead. After they realize they are going to lead they can then focus on the task and be trained to lead effectively. Professionally, i have encountered the latter more often than the former. Recent scientific studies back what i have witnessed suggesting that 30% of leadership is in your genes and 70% of leadership is in your training. History of leadership has evolved greatly around the world. Once upon a time your bloodline determined wether you would be put in a position to lead, England and Saudi Arabia are most common for this form of selection although the royal families have since given up a lot of leadership duties and decision making power. In America wealth determined who would be able to lead for a long time and in cases still does. In a health care setting i feel there are more trained leaders simply because the processes and policies must be learned and if the trainer is good then you are likely to have success. The health care industry is also a business so the morals and ethics you were born with will eventually factor into decisions when are in a management position. references: B.
