DETAILS of TASKS in Assessment 1

Activity 1: Self-introduction and consequent courteous replies to other students in your Study Buddy Group are to be posted to your Study Buddy Group Discussion Forum by Monday of Week 2. In this self-introduction, you are encouraged to share information about your personal life, your work experience, and your study and career goals. In particular, you should explain your personal values and experiences in relation to management and what managers do (LO3).

Please respond courteously and collegially to the self-introduction posts from other students in your Study Buddy Group. When this is included as part of your Assessment Item 1, all you need to do is to include your self-introduction and then just list just the names of those to whom you replied. Do not copy and paste your replies to your study buddies into the Word assessment document for Assessment 1. (50 - 100 WORDS, worth 2 marks).

Activity 2: Reflection on Topic 1: Management to be posted on your allocated Study Buddy Group Discussion Forum by midnight Monday of Week 2 (300 WORDS +/- 10%, worth 4 marks). After reading Topic 1: Management, identify, discuss, and reflect on any one thing about management in these chapters that you had not heard about or had not understood before.

This reflection is a step towards you learning to explain your personal values and experience in relation to management theory (LO3). Note that in the marking criteria in the assessment

rubric, you need to refer to management theory to support your reflection. Also, higher marks will be awarded to answers that include some analysis and critical thinking. Very few students are expected to achieve these higher levels of analysis, but it is something to aim for as you study this subject.

You are encouraged to engage in further conversation on this Topic 1 with others in your Study Buddy Group. However, only include your own post in the assessment word document that you must submit to the Turnitin Portal by the due date.

Activity 3: Reflection on a real-world manager to be posted on your allocated Study Buddy Group Discussion Forum by midnight Monday of Week 3 (300 WORDS +/- 10%, worth 3 marks). Think about all the managers you have met in your life (this could be a school teacher or a club leader if you have not had any work experience). Choose the one manager that stood out to you as being the best in their role as a manager (not necessarily the one you liked the most). Identify, discuss and reflect on what makes this person a great manager.

At the end of your post, list what you think are the three most essential characteristics of an effective manager in light of your views on who you considered was the best manager. Your answer to this question will assist you learn to explain your personal values and experiences in relation to management and what managers do (LO3) as well as be able to express opinions on management issues with clarity, from both personal and more objective positions that are supported with sound evidence and analysis (LO4).
