Overview

This assessment task requires the student to apply quality standards to selecting specified construction materials and supervising on-site processes for acquiring, receiving and storing materials for one building and construction project.

This includes:

· Identifying and interpreting the building and construction materials specified in project building specifications or contract documentation.

· Communicating effectively with manufacturers and suppliers.

· Supervising material acceptance, handling, and storage.

· Confirming the accuracy of delivered materials and products in relation to delivery orders and compliance with project specifications.

· Carrying out material testing:

o Arranging for and receiving results from external quality testing or inspections

o Arranging for on-site quality and suitability testing

o Taking corrective action in response to non-conforming test results

· As required by the organisation, provide regulatory authorities with advice and information.

The building and construction project must be a large residential or commercial building.

Note: The above specifications for the building are compulsory to meet the requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC).

This assessment has five parts:

· Activity 1 - Determine the properties of building materials.

· Activity 2 - Select suitable building materials for the application.

· Activity 3 - Supervise the acceptance, safe handling and storage of materials on site.

· Activity 4 - Supervise suitability and fit for purpose testing of materials.

· Activity 5 - Establish, record and report findings.

· The student must assess the NCC codes for the relevant class of the building to perform the activities specified in the assessment task.

· The student must supervise the various aspects of the construction.

Activity 1: Determine the properties of building materials.

· Prior to starting this assessment, you are required to develop a site delivery plan covering all WHS requirements for the unloading of truck, any crane requirements, and any manual handling requirements.

Activity 2: Select suitable building materials for the application.

This activity requires you to select suitable building materials for the application for the project assigned.

To complete this activity, you are required to:

Complete the steps given in the ‘Checklist 2’ provided.
Access and interpret NCC codes and relevant Australian Standards referenced in the NCC.
Complete Template 2.

Activity 3: Supervise the acceptance, safe handling and storage of materials on site.
