Assessment details
Definition: An infographic is the visual representation of information or data, which provides an easy-to-understand overview of a topic. It is presented in a poster format, and actively uses graphics, icons and/or images in a symbolic and representational manner, with minimal word usage. Infographics are a very useful tool in the workplace, turning complex information into an eye-catching, accessible form. There are many different types of infographics. They are intended to present information or data quickly and easily.
An infographic should:
- visually engage its audience through the use of colour and imagery;
- convey information or data in a primarily visual form, through the use of graphics and charts;
- be a single page, and focused on a single topic or issue.
Requirements
You are to create an infographic based on the following information:
Identify the role of one or more of the legal health regulatory organisations we have studied in this unit (e.g. the Coroner, the Health Complaints Commission, AHPRA) and create an infographic that outlines that role in relation to a (real or imagined) complaint or issue your (actual or imagined) workplace.
For example
You might create an infographic illustrating examples of:
- unprofessional conduct in your workplace that if reported would be subject to investigation by AHPRA,
- reportable deaths that may occur in your workplace that would be subject to investigation by the Coroner
- complaints users of your service might experience that the HCC has the power to investigate
You might create an infographic illustrating why some conduct is, and other conduct is not:
- subject to investigation by AHPRA unprofessional conduct
- unprofessional conduct
- a reportable death
- a breach of a patient's privacy
You might create an infographic illustrating a complaint/issue in your workplace and the process and likely outcome of it being referred to:
- AHPRA
- the HCC
- the Coroner
Your infographic should:
- be informative and guide the conduct of health care professionals (or patients).
- inform patients of their rights and/or health care professionals of their obligations and be focused on promoting good health outcomes.
Additional information
More information about this assessment will be given in the Block Day 2 presentations. You are encouraged to start your research with secondary sources, such as by reading articles on the relevant topics and then, where appropriate, consider primary legal sources such as legislation and cases. You are advised to look at the Getting Started with Legal Research book in the Unit Information section.
You must cite all of your sources using the Vancouver referencing style or where appropriate, and easily achieved, AGLC. If your work includes the intellectual property (authored material) of others (including books, journal articles, magazines, news articles, websites, social media, etc.) they must be given appropriate attribution.
You must submit your infographic as a PDF document - the submission dropbox will not accept any other file type.

What is the main theme or point of the piece?
What aspects does the writer focus upon, and why?
What explanations or supportive evidence are drawn upon? What assumptions are being made?
Do you find any of the ideas or information confusing or intriguing?
What conclusions might you draw from the piece, and are they necessarily the same as the writer's conclusions?
