Positioning Paper Assignment

This assignment asks you, in the midst of your Master’s degree, to make a claim for your future engagement in the profession.

you are to construct an argument for your future practice that addresses both the realities of the economic, political, and technological contexts as we can see them in the near future, and your own skills, values, and intentions regarding life in architecture (or, if this is not your ambition, at least deploying your architectural education in a related field).

Positioning Paper

You are asked to articulate your position through a short but critically charged reflection of 1500 words in length. In this, you are asked to reflect on the nature of architectural practice as it is now in its varied forms and to make a projection as to how practice might or should evolve, in your opinion, as you graduate and work in the profession. This reflection is therefore about both the profession as a whole but should also include a precise stance about how you might imagine your own career path intertwining with these broader trajectories - and so placing yourself at the center of this piece of thinking

You should also talk about the context in which we live and work, so matters such as designing with country, working with our forms of urbanization and climate, and so on are relevant. Even though the piece is not positioned as an “academic” text, it is important that it has some authority. Therefore, present your view in the context of your findings from the readings. It is mandatory to include at least 2 quotes something that provoked or inspired you to substantiate your claims (or to argue against). The summaries from the readings will form an appendix to the assignment.
