Your task:

To adapt alongside growing competition and evolving customer needs you have been hired as an external consultant by your selected organisation (which is the case that you selected) to design a strategy to compete appropriately.

Your task is to conduct strategic analysis to support how digital transformations and innovations are being applied in your selected industry, and describe the current position of your organisation. Based on this assessment you are to select two (2) emerging issues and propose two (2) innovative solutions (one for each issue).

Depending of the outcome of your strategic analysis there are many different issues to be explored. Some examples that are well aligned with BUS3DIG content are issues within: shareholder value, customer experience, social media, staff training, price competition, supply chain management, customer loyalty and brand reputation. While this is not a comprehensive list, this should provide a good platform from which to begin your research exploration.

What should be included in your report?

  • An introduction (brief overview of the organisation and the purpose of the report)
  • Strategic Analysis (SWOT)*
  • Positioning Statement (state the two (2) issues emerging through the SWOT analysis that you have chosen to focus on)*
  • Strategic Objectives (SMART objectives and link to Organisation Mission)
  • Strategic Implementation (overview and justification of a proposed solution including: implementation outline, timeline and budget
  • Strategic Measurement (tools and metrics used to measure implementation and SMART objective adherence)

*Only include the SWOT analysis and positioning statement once at the beginning. All other sections should be completed twice; once for each issue and solution.

What does your solution look like?

  • Your solution needs to be innovative and draw on material and theory learned throughout the semester
  • Your solution needs to provide an implementation outline that considers key steps for the business, employees and customers.
  • Your solution needs to include costs and timeline (include a realistic budget based on evidence and a timeline of key activities)
  • Your solution needs to be based on evidence from both business and academic sources. You must justify why your solution is optimal in addressing the specified challenges.

What will you be marked on?

  • Two chosen issues and two solutions (one solution per selected issue): each solution is clearly and specifically stated. The solution is logically linked to the problem and is innovative.
  • Implementation: A thorough and specific implementation plan is clearly identified for each solution and for each key step (business, employee and customer).
  • Digital business theory: There is a clear integration of relevant digital business theory in the solutions provided (e.g., systems thinking).
  • Sources of evidence: High-quality, credible, relevant sources to develop ideas that are appropriate for the development of solutions.
  • Writing style: Language is clear and expressive showing a strong writing style and without grammar, punctuation, usage, and spelling errors.
