The purpose of this assessment is for you to demonstrate your understanding of evidence-based practice (EBP) by choosing a clinical or professional nursing issue, developing a research question related to this issue, and conducting a formal literature search using medical/nursing databases in order to select appropriate articles to answer your question.

The topic options are unlimited and may be inspired by a clinical problem, like a concern that an aspect of nursing practice is not consistent with best evidence, a debatable aspect of care such as a paracetamol for fevers, a professional issue such as consent or for learning about best clinical practice such as when to remove an IDC.

Once you have chosen your topic you will be required to formulate your research question using PICO format (Population, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcome). When you have completed the PICO table, you will then identify the key words that you will use in your search strategy. Use the PICO search strategy and resources on CNnect to help you. Using your key words perform your database searches using linking words and synonyms to get the best results. From that search you need to pick approximately 3-5 articles which represent the best articles for answering your research question. When you are happy with your search you need to obtain a snapshot or scanned copy of the search history to attach to your assessment. You will also need to add the final articles you have chosen to review, with the snapshot of those titles to your assessment.
