HURDLE REQUIREMENT: this assessment must be submitted to pass the unit.
Description and requirements
Technology is changing the world and actively displacing the work of traditional professions.
Knowing how to manage business accounts and generate financial reports with computerised
accounting systems is of paramount importance. In Part B of Assessment 1, students are
required to record a number of simulated transactions in, and retrieve the output from, XERO
(a cloud accounting software) via the plug-in educational platform provided by
AccountingPod. AccountingPod will provide students with access to the step-by-step course
content which enables students to learn and practice recording business transactions in Xero.
Access to Xero will be granted via email invitation to each student’s Deakin email address
from Xero.

2021 Guide for AccountingPod
Students must complete the Assessment Set by 8pm on Friday, August 27, 2021. You do
not need to submit your assignment to the dropbox. Students will be denied access to the
platform after this deadline. If you intend to submit late you must have your extension
approved by emailing the Unit Chair, Egor Evdokimov. AccountingPod is a separate business
from Deakin, and they control access to the site, so the unit team cannot just extend your
access, they must contact AccountingPod.
Students can work on the Assessment Set throughout the period specified above
progressively: review and change any inputs right up to the due date.
Assessment Feedback Students who submit their work by the due date will receive their marks
and feedback on CloudDeakin within 15 working days.
Learning Outcomes
This task allows you to demonstrate achievement towards the unit learning outcomes. The ULOs are
aligned with specific graduate learning outcomes – that is, the skills and knowledge graduates are
expected to have upon completion of their studies – and this assessment task is an important tool in
determining achievement of those outcomes. If you do not demonstrate achievement of the unit
learning outcomes, you will not be successful in this unit.
Unit Learning Outcome (ULO) | Graduate Learning Outcome (GLO) |
ULO 1: Comprehend accounting as a language of business |
GLO1: Discipline-specific knowledge and capabilities |
ULO 3: Record business transactions and prepare financial statements using an accounting software (XERO), in small and medium scale business organisations. |
GLO1: Discipline-specific knowledge and capabilities GLO3: Digital Literacy |
Extensions
Extensions will only be granted for exceptional and/or unavoidable circumstances outside the
student’s control. Students seeking an extension for an assignment prior to the due date should
apply directly to the Unit Chair by completing the Assignment and Online Test Extension Application
Form. Requests for extensions will not be considered after 8pm on Friday, August 27, 2021
AEST. Applications for special consideration after the due date must be submitted via
StudentConnect.
Late submission
The following marking penalties will apply if you submit an assessment task after the due date without
an approved extension: 5% will be deducted from available marks for each day up to five days, and
work that is submitted more than five days after the due date will not be marked and will receive 0%
for the task. 'Day' means working day for paper submissions and calendar day for electronic
submissions. The Unit Chair may refuse to accept a late submission where it is unreasonable or
impracticable to assess the task after the due date.
Calculation of the late penalty is as follows:
• 1 day late: submitted after Friday 11:59pm and before Saturday 11:59pm – 5% penalty.
• 2 days late: submitted after Saturday 11:59pm and before Sunday 11:59pm – 10% penalty.
• 3 days late: submitted after Sunday 11:59pm and before Monday 11:59pm – 15% penalty.
• 4 days late: submitted after Monday 11:59pm and before Tuesday 11:59pm – 20% penalty.
