LAWS11066 Contracts
The goal of this course is to educate you on the fundamental principles of Australian contract law. This unit will give students a strong foundation in many of the civil law concerns encountered in legal practice, together with the law of Torts. The course first explains the theoretical aspects of contract law before moving on to explore the principles of a valid and enforceable contract. Then students will reflect on and research the doctrine of privity and the contents, construction, and interpretation of a contract. Then, students will participate in the discussion of contracts containing vitiating elements, such as errors, misrepresentations, coercion, undue influence, unconscionable contracts, and void and illegal contracts. The final section of the course examines the manner in which a contract can be assigned, discharged, or terminated, and the remedies that are available for the non-performance of a contract. This course satisfies the Contracts standards set forth by the Law Practitioners Admissions Board.
