History of La Trobe Student Union
La Trobe University Union is the student union for La Trobe University’s Melbourne and Bundoora campuses. It was established in July 1967. The La Trobe Students’ Union is led by elected students who advocate for, offer services, events, and assistance to all La Trobe students. The Communist Party of Australia (Marxist-Leninist) was a large organization on campus, acting as a front organization at times and occasionally promoting the use of the name ‘La Trot.’ LTSU has actually helped shape the University, supporting everything from new buildings like the Sports Centre to Union Hall, providing important services, and relentlessly campaigning for the rights of La Trobe students, among other things.

Rabelais is La Trobe’s independent magazine for students’ voices! A New edition is released digitally every 8 to 6 weeks and distributed for free. After years of changes in formats and regimes, the publication has adopted a more of an informal magazine style while still keeping the format of a newspaper, the content is more about books, music and student life and fashion. As of 2021, the magazine discontinued publishing physical magazines due to the cut in funding. It is now solely published on their website.
