ECO3CCE Climate Change Economics
Description of Task:
The Direct Action Plan and a Carbon Tax are examples of different policies to address climate change and are broadly representative of policies used by governments globally. Australia has used both types of policies allowing us to analyze the effectiveness of each policy at reducing climate change. Compare and contrast these two policies and evaluate the likely impacts of both policies on your selected corporate case or a sector by applying the knowledge gained from the course. In your response, as a minimum, you should:
1) Describe the predicted climate change impacts on your chosen case or sector.
2) Discuss the rationale and the theoretical underpinnings of a carbon tax and compare it with the Direct Action Plan.
3) Identify various risks and opportunities for the chosen sector or firm in a carbon constrained world.
4) Outline appropriate adaptation strategies. The case/sector selection is critical to this task. Listed below are some examples. You are free to choose other corporate cases or sectors apart from what is listed below:

Formatting the Project Report
The final document should be submitted via the Turnitin link (LMS) as a double-spaced Microsoft Word document with a Title page indicating the title of the project, your name and student ID number. Students must use the Harvard referencing style for both in-text and at the end of the document reference list. You are not required to reference the lecture slides posted in this subject, but if they use an external source you should reference the original source. You are strongly encouraged to embed online media (hyper-links to specific websites, videos and podcasts) in order to comply with the word limit restriction. It makes sense to provide more analysis and present descriptive contents using external web links or hyper-texts. The task requires a substantial research effort on the chosen case and using and reviewing material outside the reading list. Please bear in mind that this authentic learning task is equivalent to your final examination for this subject. Past evidence indicates that late starters tend to struggle passing the subject, so you should start writing your project well ahead of the last Zoom session in week 12). No extensions will be granted outside the university policies and procedures.
