The importance of having organizational culture has been highlighted, what role it can play towards managing arising issues across host countries of different cultures. Many large companies across different countries has emphasised on the importance of having strong organizational culture as it will help the companies to enable same culture across borders. However, implementing the same culture across border is not as easy as it sounds like or seems like. One needs to take into consideration that many people are change resistant and are not as welcoming when it comes to adapting work culture of another country.
Same thing was observed in the case of AirCom, a company with its head office in Austraila and other offices in countries like China, Viethnam and Singapore. Its only because of the technology that has helped companies like AirCom to manage employees and staff across different countries. What used to be too difficult to communicate with team members in the past is now super easy. Conference calls can be made, and online meetings can arrange without any issues at all. However, though holding and managing online meetings or conference calls are not that difficult but the chances of issues taking place in such online meetings are very likely to take place. Main reason for such issues to take place is due to the fact that people across different cultures have different preferences and perceive things differently.
It’s the responsibility of managers or leaders to make sure such issues don’t take place. Only by making sure that these issues are avoided any business would then be able to succeed. Though managing and avoiding such issues may not be that easy, but there are certain tactics and ways that can be use. For example, the first and foremost important thing that managers can do is to make sure that all communication take place in the most smooth and clear manner, so that any miscommunication don’t take place. The other thing would be to educate and train all employees about other cultures and what values and norms should be taken into consideration about other cultures. There are several other tactics and options available to manager that they can use to make sure the cross-cultural issues don’t take place in their company.
In the case of AirCom, the key thing to consider is the fact that its head office is located in a western culture country where its subsidiaries are mostly in Asian countries. So the management only has to deal with two major cultures. It’s the managers who has to consider that people of specific countries have specific preference as compare to people of other countries, so they need to be dealt with accordingly. If one thing is not appreciated in a western society than it should not be practiced at all, similarly if one thing is considered unethical in Asian countries than those things should not be practiced accordingly.
