Executive Summary:
This document contains the three solutions to the problem described in the Business Requirement Document. Each solution has been described in detail and evaluated according to the requirement of the problem stated in the BRD. Two of the solutions are softwares that are already available, and have been explained in the document. The third solution is a software manufacturing company that will develop the Tool according to the needs and requirements of the College. At the end the solutions are compared and the best solution has been identified and recommended.
Introduction:
The I.T. Section at the St. George TAFE NSW College is responsible for the preparation of the timetable for the next semester. Currently they use an enhanced spreadsheet, but with the growth of the I.T. section, complexities have also grown and it is no more an efficient way to prepare the timetable for the next semester. There’s a need for a new tool that would be easy to use and will provide an efficient solution to the problem. This tool will keep the information such as
- Student’s information
- Teacher’s Information
- Subject’s Information
- Classroom’s information
- Subject each student is enrolled in
- Student Fee status
With the above information the tool should be able to prepare a timetable for the complete semester.
Business Requirements:
The business need is to provide a tool that would solve the problems of scheduling a timetable for the next semester. Currently the preparation of the timetable is done on an enhanced spread-sheet, which is very difficult and time-consuming. The tool would contain all the information about the I.T. Section e.g. student information, teachers information, classroom information etc. and with the help of this information would provide a well-structured timetable.
Functional Requirements:
Following are the functional requirements of the system:
- Store student information.
- Store teacher information
- Store subject information
- Store Classroom information
- Prepare timetable of each course so that there are no clashes.
Non Functional Requirements:
Following are the non-functional requirements of the system:
- Should be fast and not time-consuming.
- Only the data-entry is manual, the calculations are done by the tool.
- Multiple users should be able to use the tool at the same time.
Proposed Solutions:
Following are the three tools that provide us with the solution:

This feature doesn’t mean that it imposes multi week scheduling; you can also make same weekly schedules for the whole semester as well.

This feature allows you to use multiple teachers along with multiple rooms for different occasions. You can use this feature to use a different room for a course on different occasions; same is the case for teachers.

Wise timetable is scheduling software which we are going to discuss in this document as a solution to the timetable preparation problem. This tool provides the following features:

- Data is entered manually; the system then prepares the timetable.
