What is journalism?
Journalism is the activity intended to inform the society about itself and to make public, things that would other wise be private, with the help of journalists and others engaged in the preparation of written, audio and video material, intended for broadcasting through public media with reference to factual and ongoing events of public concern. In the modern society, news media have become the main player of information about public affairs. However the platform of journalism and other forums of mass media are undergoing changes like switching to the internet.
Journalism has different forms for different intended audiences like:
Broadcast Journalism – writing or speaking intended to be distributed by radio or television.
Advocacy Journalism – Writing to an advocate on particular views or influence the opinion of the audiences.
Investigative Journalism – writing which seeks to add extra information to explain or describe the events of a particular topic.
In journalism there are many sub areas from the main sections, where one could specialize based on their interests. The main areas and respective sub areas include:
