Introduction:
Before I opted to interview Mr. Abbas Sayed, I scrutinized many business setups small and large. But I found Ghan Rugs as the most appropriate business with a simple and short history of success. As stated by Vigorito, 2003 that it takes self-sacrifice, devotion and hard work to be successful. Mr. Abbas started his career in Australia as a process worker in companies manufacturing different commodities. He was not satisfied with his job and wanted to do something of his own. After a deep market analysis he found a gap for products from eastern countries and started with handmade rugs from his native country Afghanistan. It was a one man show as he himself visited Afghanistan, selects rugs made by different tribes, import the same to Australia and sell it in the open consumer market. Being solo in this type of business he got a very good response. Later on he added other products like jewelry and furniture in his list.
The ceaseless optimism that emanates from entrepreneurs (even through the bleak times) is a key factor in the drive towards success Kuratko, (2009). When I interviewed Mr. Abbas, what appealed to me was his determination and faith, he said “when you give the same quality that you claim then buyers develops a relation of trust with you and that is the basic pillar for any successful business.” Constant efforts and devotion led him to be a successful entrepreneur in a very short time. For marketing he preferred both methods traditional and advance new technologies. The main purpose of my interview was to come up with an understanding of what it takes to start and build a company, on a personal level on the part of the entrepreneur and operationally.
