APA Referencing
APA referencing format is a regular approach, which is frequently used for educational purposes and social sciences. APA referencing style was first introduced in 1929 by an article publisher in Psychological Bulletin set up the primary road map. Furthermore, this was ultimately an APA publication.
What is APA Referencing:
APA Reference is a writing style through which the author’s surname and year of publication are embedded within the paper. This is the style suggested by American Psychological Association. It is not only helpful in this sense but also guides that UT Student in the form of Book format.
There are two APA referencing styles, citation within the text & reference list at the end of the document.
In-Text Citation(APA in text referencing)
While citing in the text, author, date, and style are used, the citation in the text consists of the author(s) and year of publication. This is given in the round bracket.
Example:
(Ahmed & Hasnain, 2018, pp. 14-18)
- While citing books, journal articles, internet documents, or any other formats, no distinction is made. However for electronic documents, page no is given, use paragraph no with the abbreviation para, if available.
- The full details of the source are provided in the reference list at the end of the document.
- Reference list entries have all the information required that is necessary to follow up.
Format to Quote Reference Citation in Text:
- If the writer’s name comes within the content, enclosed it in parentheses concerning the year of publication.
Example: Scarlet (1980) Recent time
- If the writer’s name is unknown, use surname, comma, year enclosed within parentheses.
Example: In a previous study (Scarlet, 1976).
- If the writer’s name & date of publication is known, so avoid reiteration within parentheses.
Example: In 1978, Scarlet Recent time
- If the publication has two writers, must cite each reference that happens with the text, join names through “and”.
Example: John and Johnson (1975)
Electronic Media
The material is available on the internet in any form i.e journal, newspaper, research paper, government report, web pages, etc. However, remember few things while citing
- Must give complete knowledge to a pupil which wills helpful and particular reference of text other than web pages.
- Provide correct, proper addresses (URLs).
Important Four items
- Topic or explanation
- Date (whether publication date or recovery date)
- Address or DOI
- Writer’s name, if accessible.

Format Guideline
- Manage your margin to 1 inch from sides.
- The heading and rest of the text are Double-space.
- Starting line of every paragraph is indented up to 0.5 inches.
- The mention of the page number on every page.
- Approachable language is being used i.e. Time New Roman, Georgia, Arial.
