Assessment Two In-class Presentations:
In the First tutorial you will be assigned to a small discussion group. Each member of each discussion group is expected to actively participate in the tutorials throughout semester. Each student will be given an individual grade based on their contribution to the group presentation. For the presentation you will be allocated a commodity (a cup of coffee, a beef steak; a mobile phone etc) the task requires that you work collectively to research the ecological footprint of your assigned commodity. Each group will determine the origin(s) of the commodity; the ecological consequences of its manufacture; the human aspects of production (the human labour used to extract resources, human labour used in the production of the commodity and labour associated with transport etc.). If quantitative data is available then by all means include this in your presentation, but we are primarily interested in the qualitative dimensions (i.e. the social, cultural and ecological aspects) of the production, distribution and consumption of the commodity. Further details will be discussed in tutorials.
